I dropped a glass bead, but when I tried to pick it up I only dropped another.
Eventually there was only one left, sitting there in a ray of sunlight.
When our hearts started beating, everyone rushed to find their own place,
And protected it with all their might, fearing it would be taken away.
Now even the hands we’d strove to keep clean for so long are beginning to look soiled;
Our memories are being whisked away before we even have the chance to lose them!
We’ll surely meet again, using our synchronized heartbeat as a signal.
I’m right here, calling out to you endlessly!
When we’ve piled on so many excuses that we’re ready to break down,
We’ll discover the reason we were born!
As long as we exist, we’ll have no choice but to separate ourselves.
Each ray of sunlight is just a little too narrow for two.
I dropped a glass bead, but when it hit the floor, something came out;
Light began to bathe all of the places I’d claimed as my own.
I began to realize that the steps I’d been counting were no more than numbers,
And all that I really needed to know could be found between 0 and 1.
We’ll meet for the first time, following the billowing flag of our lamentations.
Don’t forget that I’m endlessly calling out to you!
When you and I fill in the gaps around all our excuses,
We’ll be able to make our promise.
You and I mirror one another;
We touch each other with soiled hands,
Accumulated reflections of our karma,
And explore the ways each other is shaped.
We’ve found it, I’m sure!
We’re standing together in one person’s worth of sunlight.
I’m endlessly calling out to you from behind that glass bead.
That’s right, we’ll certainly meet someday. As our troubles are buried, a cross will rise,
And the promise will be fulfilled:
You and I will become one.
