(You need a time machine?)
Our unguarded faces are side by side, talking about the same things we always do,
While the heroes within the TV look so busy saving the future.
There’s a feeling here we can’t find anywhere else;
It’s so strange… even though I loved so much being alone… I can never go back.
We share time without pretense,
Not bothering to say “I’m happy”, “I’m sad”, or whatever,
Since we’re so truly similar.
In these days that are far from being an adventure flick,
There’s plenty of things to grow tired of, get too much of,
But we can smile about when we remember… and I hope that will always continue.
(You need a time machine?)
We making plans to travel the world that we’ll never follow through on;
When I think about it, we’ve yet to make a single promise.
Like a comfortable, deserted island,
Where I need so little that I forget all kinds of things…
No matter what season of parting may come,
We won’t bother to say, “Hang in there”, “Take care”,
Or any other number of stock encouragements.
Just as sensitive and dull as we’ve always been –
Teasing one another, our laughing voices,
Only need to overpower the sound of departure.
If we just leave the far-off future for later… you know,
We can live our own unique period of time for now, filled with tiny commonplace events.
Back then I dreamed of a time machine, resting my face on my hands;
I’ve had times I wanted to go back and make it take flight,
But I don’t need those dreams any longer.
We share time without pretense,
Not bothering to say “I’m happy”, “I’m sad”, or whatever,
Since we’re so truly similar.
In these days that are far from being an adventure flick,
There’s plenty of things to grow tired of… get too much of…
But we can smile when we remember… and I hope that will always continue…
… just like that sound ringing loud!
Nothing needs to change; I don’t need to go back:
I don’t need a time machine.
