On nights the crescent moon rained down,
I would touch you from the other side of my window.
Your smile… your voice… your smell… remain there.
They intrude
Upon my mornings, afternoons, nights, and dreams!
Even if I try to scream them away,
They won’t disappear.
I look to the sky as the waves pick up speed,
Heading toward nights filled with longing.
I search for you with tangled legs,
Even if I can’t see you.
I plead with quivering fingers,
Even if I can’t touch you.
I pray with an overflowing throat,
Even if I can’t say the words to you.
Slipping past the stars,
Grazing the moon,
I run.
“I want to see you!”
On nights my heart was pouring out,
I would play songs with you from the other side of my window.
But with these stale memories and fragments of passion,
They’re torn to pieces:
My song, sound, lyrics, and lies!
Even if I scream myself hoarse,
You’re not here.
I’m swallowed up by a sea of stars,
Heading toward the end of these aimless nights.
I search for you with quivering legs,
Even if I can’t see you.
I plead with frozen fingers,
Even if I can’t touch you.
I pray with a hoarse throat,
Even if I can’t say the words to you.
Overtaking the stars,
Far beyond the moon,
I run.
“I miss you so much!”
Look on high,
At the same moon…
In the same sky…
On the same night.
Amid flowing, unstable sand,
We sink deeply.
While the brightly shining stars
Gently beckon to us.
I search for you with tangled legs.
I plead with quivering fingers.
I pray with an overflowing throat.
I declare with my spilling voice:
“I’m right here!”
Quickly!
Before the stars disappear,
I’ll run
To where you are.
Quickly!
Before the moon disappears,
My hand
Will reach out
Toward you.
