  1. Hey, this may have been asked before (but since I´m too lazy to read the previous comments; sorry),
but what do you think of Vivid-Watashi´s (it´s a fansubber) translation of this song? I think it makes more sense (though I don´t know if it´s correct.
If you didn´t see it, episode 8 has it.

    • Hmm, I’m not familiar with it at all and there hasn’t been any previous discussion of it here.
I don’t hold high hopes for most other sources I see in general, including “official” sources in some cases.
If you’re especially curious and can get me a transcript, I could let you know how they did~ ヽ(^。^)ノ

  2. From what I can tell.. it sounds like
“I say CRY, I say RIOT, I say RISE AGAIN (maybe RAISE A HELL), ‘some gibberish I don’t understand’.”
“Don’t say WAR, Life is WAR, fighting WAR, ‘other gibberish I don’t get’.”

    • Yeah, back before we had the official lyrics, this is roughly what most people were thinking;
The current lyrics are, unfortunately, completely accurate – as written by Sawano himself :(

  3. These lyrics, I can’t, Sawano why u do dis ;_;

I’d soo make a cover and a French translation

  4. No, no, nope, no. These aren’t the lyrics. I reject your lyrics and substitute my own. This is not how you language, sir.

But then again, I suppose incomprehensible nonsense is how you make contemporary poetry, thus, ART. Danielewski novels are linear and coherent by comparison.

    • I hope we can someday follow your example and escape from this horrible truth!
We must all make our own version in order to safely continue appreciating music! (/_;)

  5. hello! thanks for the translation. was curious about what sawano would come up with this time lol, and while i wouldn’t call his work on az his best i think it’s still pretty good :D
anyway, so i noticed that while MKaLIEz also had the same trilingual chorus and german verse, it didn’t sound as kobayashi was singing any japanese words at all. are the lyrics of the two really slightly different? also, will you guys be translating it too?

    • Thank you for the message! They are completely different lyrics, for sure. The problem is that I can’t find them anywhere (they’re not even in the booklet), and Mika has just as many marbles in her mouth as mizuki does >_>
If you happen to find some, or if someone fluent in German has more confidence in what’s being said in “MKaLIEz” than we had over multiple months of analyzing “aLIEz”, I think it would make a great addition!

    • So that’s what happened! lol I was totally convinced it only showed up once :o
It’s great that everyone is so awesome to help out, cause I get pretty buried in content.

Nice job with the video! I like what you did with the lyrics and you can reference my work any time ヽ(^。^)ノ Glad to know it helped!

  6. Thanks for lyrics. :)

    I believe –
dou dou sareta tsumi no mure to ushiromuki ni aragau

    – should be ‘sarashita’ instead of ‘sareta’..

  7. Also, I have no ides how this comments work: It says I´m from Austria, even though I am from Germany and I never selected a country…

  8. I think the last part is:

    Was ist das!
    Leben, was ist das?
    Signal, siehst du das?
Leben, siehst du es/mich/das (bad pronunciation, could be any of those)
    aus eigenem Willen?

    Leben, was ist das?
    Signal, siehst du das?
Leben, siehst du (there may be a das/es in there, but it´s really unclear)
    mit deinen Augen?

    Translation:

    What is that?
    Life, what is that?
    Signal, do you see it?
Life do you see it/me/that by your own will?

    Life, what is that?
    Signal, do you see it?
    Life do you see (this/it)
with your eyes? (you may add with “your own eyes”, but it would not be literal)

Source: I´m german, this is what I heard, but while the german grammar is correct (mostly), the pronunciation is unclear at times.

ps. : Are you sure, it is not “I say crier – I say lier? As a not native speaker, it sound like that to me.

    • Hi, thank you for the comment! The comments work fine, your first post just has to go through approval + I happened to be sleeping :p

So you’re a little bit late to the game to be relying on what you’re hearing – the lyrics posted here are (unfortunately) the official lyrics as Sawano has Mizuki singing them, complete with any improper grammar / words that don’t exist.
I’ve stopped listening to this song, because there’s nothing more horrific than realizing she’s really, actually saying these things.

  9. I waited patiently for the official lyrics to be released before attempting a cover of the song only to finally discover here what a mess it turned out to be. T_T

What to do, what to do…?

I appreciate all of your efforts, btw. I referred here often during the decipher phase.

    • Thank you for joining in on the process ^^ It makes the effort worth it!

Now, I’d say this is where a cover is really applicable, ’cause you have the opportunity to make something coherent that I’m sure a lot of people around here would be wild for!

If you decide to do it and make some progress, I’d love to know how it turns out :D

  10. I see, jeje. I’m not the only one who thought about that chance. Except instead of “Raden” I did it “Rede” that means; speech, talk, conversation, words. But, at the end, I thought that he could not screw up like that… jaja

BTW. The “Wolrd” on the “Don’t-生-War Lie-兵士-War-World” line, can you hear it? You’ll see, I was making the k-time for a Kara and, to say truth, I don’t hear to Mizuki say it.

    • Another good observation! To tell you the truth, that was the one part I was listening to on loop in disbelief, as it’s so hard to hear 兵士 in the middle of all that.
Eventually I heard it, but it’s extremely glossed over + blended with the surrounding syllables!

Good luck with the k-time and let me know when it’s done :D – it’s simply going to be very “compact” at that part!

  11. Now that you talk about learning German. In the German part at the end, the “Rade” word is really german? cause I’ve tried but I did can’t find this on dictionaries that I’ve searched. Could you iluminarme? ^^’

    • Good question! I’d love to explain my thinking :D

Deciding that this really wasn’t proper German, I assumed that Mr. Sawano must be confusing it with a Dutch verb (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/raden), which means to guess or inquire.
Since this fit with the other meanings that he appears to be trying to allude to, I took it as our best guess.

If anyone has other theories, or if I’ve clearly made a thought error here, please feel free to let me know!

    • Time for us all to learn English, Japanese, AND German, so that we can keep up with Sawano’s “artistry” :D

Just wait ’til he adds poorly written French to his repertoire.

    • Yes! Please join me in deleting this from our memories! :S

My fever pitch for this song was mercilessly destroyed by what she’s actually saying.

  12. Thank you for the comment!

Yes, “sarashita” was a total typo, but the translation is actually correct as is.

I’m confused about what you’re saying with “I stand gazing down at death”, as this is taken from the official lyrics booklet of the A/Z version of this song.

I’m assuming you’re referring to the song’s other renditions we’ve heard from other vocalists.

  13. sorry double post, just want to add maybe “aishiteru Game sekai no Day”
was supposed to be “I stand gazing down at death” more correlation with rise in hell part

  14. i think the line “dou dou sareta tsumi no mure to ushiromuki ni aragau”
was supposed to be “dou dou sarashita(晒した,) tsumi no mure to ushiromuki ni aragau” (exposed to the brazen horde of sins)

  15. Can we just go back to the fan lyrics/translation and pretend the real lyrics were never really released?
    Please?

    • I love you so much for this comment.

The whole time I was working on these, I was thinking, “Weren’t things nice when we didn’t know?” -_-
We saw a dream that couldn’t last… a dream of this song having lyrics that make the slightest sense.

    • Prior to official, people heard plenty of different things.
Considering the ugly mess of the ACTUAL lyrics, I think this is probably the least interesting observation to make lol

  16. Sorry I’ve messed up some lines:
    Line 2: 恥に濡れ(た)鏡の中
    Line 4: ふらつ(い)た
    Line 11: 見下(し)てても
    Line 13: とどめ(も)ないまま
What’s in parenthesis is what has been forgotten when I written the lyrics.

  17. What is the source for these?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re correct, but I was hoping it wouldn’t be quite this level of nonsense -_-

  18. Based unpredictable Sawano lyrics :

    • Thank you for the comment!

It sounds like a lot of different things to different people because of the way she is singing. :p
We’ll know more once official lyrics are released!

    • Thanks! It’s nice to hear the different vocals!

It seems though, that each of those videos are different parts from the full song, and I’m noticing lyrical differences written specifically for mizuki’s version as well.

Official release will be eye-opening :S

  19. Well, since the lyrics are the same than in OST track 04 : MKAlieZ, I think it’d be better to listen to this one because even if it’s not great, Mika Kobayashi has a better german pronunciation than mizuki.

    • Thanks for the tip!

Do you mean on the Aldnoah.Zero OST, cause that’s pretty far out, right?
Is the song you mentioned available anywhere yet?

  20. well the line,”Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach pflicht tun aus.” is probably the only weird sentence, It would sound better if she were singing
‘Leben was ist das? Seht danach aus die Pflicht zu tun.’

Else I can agree with other germans it’s bad german but not because of the lyrics but because of how she sings it.

  21. You’re welcome, Actually I listened to it very clearly and what I understand makes perfectly sense in german. I can’t say it’s accurate but I’m german and it makes sense. There is no misspelling and it sounds accurate for german.

    • Awesome, I’ll give it another listen soon too.

I was just curious since everyone so far has said, “It’s bad German, but I think it means [x]”. Haha

  22. Cool! I picked and chose what works for me – will be all up to official now~ Thank you!

I’ve gotten some pretty different opinions on the German from people and I’m convinced it’s definitely composed of bad grammar. For the German lines that are different, did you find yourself tweaking to achieve meaning or is that just directly what you heard?

  23. Ok I finished , I listened to the entire ending via ear plugs and put it to ‘vocal’ only. Here is he final translation of what I can make out. hope it helps until the official lyrics are released.

I say crier , I say, liar, I sing, rising hell
I stand, gazing down at death

    don’t say…war…….
    Life is… war……
    I hate war….
Ich will nur noch fragen was ist das?

Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach pflicht tun aus.
Leben, pflicht tun, um Grausamkeiten zu unterbinden.
Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach pflicht tun aus.
Leben, siehst du die Natur mit deinen Augen?

  24. Sorry for so many posts but I try to make an accurate translation:
    Here is my edited version:;

    I say crier , I say, liar, I sing – rising hell
I stand, gazing down at death

    don’t say, war…….
    Life is… war……
    I hate war….
Es ist – cool zu fragen, was ist das?

Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach pflicht tun aus.
Leben, willst du mal raus und im fernen leben?
Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach pflicht tun aus.
Leben, siehst du die Natur mit deinen Augen?”

  25. Oh and I think I finally understand that part too ,
“‘Leben, willst du mal raus und im fernen leben.'” –
“Life, do you want to go out and live in the far?”

    • Awesome, thank you so much!

And don’t worry about the posts – this page is comment central :p

I’ll work something out for it in the morning (・∀・)

  26. No problem and sure

Es ist gut zu fragen, was ist das? – It’s good to ask. what’s the meaning of it?
Leben, siehst du die Natur mit deinen Augen? – Life, do you see the nature with your eyes?
( though I believe ;;can you see the nature with your eyes?’;; ) is more fitting.

  27. kimetsuke bakari unubore wo kiita
chiipu na hokori de oto aragetemo
    tana ni kakushita aware na
haji ni nureta kagami no naka

    tsugou na kizu dake hikarakashite
tegaru na tsuyosa de kachitoosu sube o
dore dake toidemo ki wa yatsureru
    buratsuita ashi satori da

I say, cry, I say, liar, I say (sing?) – rise in hell, ( rising heaven?)
I stand, gazing down at death

    don’t say, whooooa…
    Life is… whooooa..
    I think.. whooooa….
Es ist gut zu fragen, was ist das?

Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach nichts tun aus.
Leben, willst du mal raus und…..( I can’t understand that completely )
Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach nichts tun aus.
Leben, siehst du die Natur mit deinen Augen?”

Note; This is just a fan translation from a german ( I’m not claiming this to be absolutely correct.

    • Thank you for sharing!

Definitely sold on those German lines I’m missing (from what I can hear) – do you have rough English translations for:

Es ist gut zu fragen, was ist das?
Leben, siehst du die Natur mit deinen Augen?”

  28. I think this goes after “I say crier! I say liar! I say rising heaven!”

I stand gazing down at death
    Don’t say… whoa
    Life is… whoa
    I think… whoa

Es ist gute frage, was ist das?
Leben, was ist das? sie kam, siehst du das?
Leben, sie tut weil haus und der mann will
Leben, was ist das? sie kam, siehst du das?
Leben, sie tut also in seinen augen

Hope the Germans could fix the German lines.

    • Thank you for the input! :D

I’ll give these some thought once I dodge a computer disaster (motherboard fried)…

I am pretty convinced of what we’ve hashed out so far, but I’ll give it another listen. (・∀・)

  29. You’ve mentioned in the “rise in heaven/hell/again” debate that you definitely hearing an “h” sound. I agree, and i’m pretty sure the word is “hell.” I think the problem is that everyone is forgetting that “raisu (sp?)” can be the Japanese pronunciation of more than just “rise.” As someone before me mentioned, “-th” is often pronounced as an ending “-s” by Japanese speakers.
I think the line is “writhe in hell.” Sounds much more like an admonishment of these “criers” and “liars.” Sounds like the singer at that point, while expressing how much she loves this world, is cursing the “liars and criers” who start the wars which she clearly hates.
    So,what do you think?

    • Thank you for the input!

I think that there are a lot of different things people are hearing and that it’s easy to make extensive extrapolation of contexts we’re not sure about.

I’m fine with what’s there until we have definitive, official lyrics, which will no doubt be rife with grammatical tragedy anyway.

  30. Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach Nichtstun aus. —->

Yeah, looks like I misread something when I made an earlier edit.
And that’s unfortunate that it translates out like that literally – I will most definitely have to infer something in the process to make it readable.

Leben, willst du mal raus und gerne wieder. —–>

Thank you for this clarification! Another line that makes little sense… I will have to think about what to do with this one.

And it’s funny, in my memory I’d written “I just want to ask”, but looking at what’s posted, I definitely didn’t include it :-o I appreciate the catch~

  31. Leben, willst du mal raus und gerne wieder. -> translated in meaing

Life would you like to come back out “and…be happy” again (I presume “gerne” meaning in this sentence actually “fröhlich” +sein which is missing to make it gramatical right) | its either missing a german part in her singing or total gramatical wrong to be realy translated as its written in german.

Ich will nur noch fragen “Was ist das?” -> Translated

I just want to ask “what is that”?

I’d would mean “würde” but [will nur noch] is in meaning “just want to”

  32. Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach Nichtstun aus. -> Does actually translated mean…

Life what is that? Seems like doing nothing.

“What is life?” ‘Cause it seems to be a hopeless night… -> means

Leben, was ist das? weil es eine hilflose nacht zu sein scheint.

Total different meanings when translating it

  33. Interestingly, the lyrics sound slightly different in the insert song and in the ED version. I can tell they are different vocalists, but the chorus part sounds slightly different in Mika’s version compared to the aLIEz version. in Mika’s version, her last word actually sounds like it ends in an “er” sound like all the other words before it. “crier”, liar” “…-er”.

As for the aLIEz ED, I really don’t hear the “h” sound that you say is there. In fact “rise again” was about the ONLY thing I could make out the whole time. However, maybe there is an “h” sound and I just can’t hear it. I can’t wait to see the actual lyrics and hear the full song in all its glory. :D

  34. Hey
What is your oppinion about this theory
    “Whoa… Life is…
    WAR… I hate..
    War ..(with bad english)extinct…”

  35. I’m pretty sure the line “愛してる 無限世界の大記録性” / “aishiteru mugensekai no daikirokusei” is false.

An overlook look of this song shows that the lyrics are cut in three parts : Japanese one, English one and German one, and I don’t think they are mixed.

Also the “I say rising heaven!” is more “I say, rising hell!”.

    • I definitely get where you could draw those conclusions and have had similar doubts come and go during extensive listening.

The line being in Japanese is most definitely real and at least part of it is extremely clear, the other part being the closest I could grab with my ears and a good listening environment.

I considered rising hell, but heard an “n” in trail off that suggested otherwise – this could simple be the singer’s voice / style, but it’s what we chose to stick with.

I’ll be very excited when official comes out. Until then, we’re all in the dark with only our best guesses to guide us.

  36. Ich will nur noch fragen “Was ist das?”
    — I only want to ask: “What is that?”
Leben, was ist das? Sieht nach Nichtstun aus.
    — Life, what ist that? Looks like doing nothing.
Leben, willst du mal raus und gerne wieder.
    — (Bad german. possibly means something like:) Life, don’t you want to go out again?

    Source: I am german.

    • Thank you so much for the clarification! I edited a bit and I think it’s more solid.

Do you have any insights about the very last line of the song that no one seems to be able to hear? Is it weird English and not German?

Also, is the first line you typed meant to be the line following “I hate WAR…”, cause I’m not sure that’s what I’m hearing there.

  37. Hey there again,

For the german verse I have a suggestion. “A lighter one”.

Hungarian translation by my brother ^^ [Thanks a lot boya]
“Most az egyszer megkérdem: Mi az? Mi az élet? Éjszaka semmittevés. Élet, azt szeretnénk, hogy ismét újra vidám és boldog legyen. Mi az élet? Éjszakai semmittevés.”

    English:
For the nonce(just for/this once) I ask you: “What is…”?
“What is the life?” Nocturnal(or overnight) idleness.
We want the life to be joyful(/cheerful) and happy again.
    “What is life?” Nocturnal idleness.

    Aaaaaaaaaand
    For the last line :
Leben, willst du mal zum ja(or zum jeden)…[Afterwards i dunno but: zam je aim you…]
Or “I’m you”. Maybe a sudden turn happens and changes the last line’s language at the end.

  38. Still think the last line in the crier section is “i say rise in hell.” Like “making a comeback in her life, rising back to her feet” or something like that. Sounds plausible. Also i’d change “crier” to “crying.”

    • I appreciate the different insights! The parts that are written in consist of what I / my team have decided on after our own arduous dealings. :)

  39. What do you say If I say that again like before, its a confirmation line. But “Es Ist” she says. Maybe we will make a pretty long conversation here. Now I turn on my Aegisub and make a karaoke + analysing those lines.
Anyway, I hear this kind of “word” : “Ei sei” Like “I say”, or “Es Ist” with a bit french – german accent :D
But we can think about what life can be in poems. Here is frightening, so this kind of adjectives can be the appropriate words. Maybe. Still guessing.

I know exactly she sings “Whoa..” before that thing.
We have to know what is she singing about, no, what Sawano Hiroyuki says with this song.
And the sequence of the questions-answers.

    • Too much speculation can lead us down an endless path :p
I’d love some definite insights about the German, but beyond that this may be what we’re looking at until the release on 9/10.

  40. Hi there,
Thank you for your translation, I’m very satisfied with all the translations.
I usually translate these to Hungarian.
Anyway, I think i hear right the last verse which can be this:
Leben, willst du mal Zu mie za mie aim you.
Zu .. the German Z = Ts in english sounds like that. Zu, za, mjie aimu – these last words what I’m unsure about.

And the “Crier” verse ‘s last row can be, perhaps:
    Whoa… Life is.
This could be kinda confirmation.. “The life is really frightening, yes, the life is frightening.”
    I really don’t know. I just guessing.

    • Thank you! I’m willing to roll with that until we have something closer. How would you approximate the meaning of that line in English?

What you have for that last line of the “crier” section, while solid supposition, doesn’t quite sound like what’s being said. In fact, I’m leaning toward that being German as well, haha

  41. Hey man, It’s me again! Just a bump to see how’s the german part is going. Im translanting the song myself to portuguese and your translation was a great base, let me thank you again!

    • Thank you so much, that means a lot!
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to dig any further and no one has stepped up to fill me in :(
I can assure that as soon as I (or any of my team) knows, it will be up on this page!

  42. Thank you! Loved your translation, it’s so deep!
Just a heads up: i think you forgot the last line. There’s still something in german after the last “Leben, was ist das? Sieht nacht Nichtstun aus.”

    • Thank you!

And you’re totally right – I think there is a line missing there.
We did a lot of info pooling and research to get the answers we have (none of us know German), so we will have to rely on someone’s good graces to fill that in!
For the moment, I’ll have to slap in a few more of those awful question marks :(

With some German > Japanese / German > English, I can have a translation, no problem!
